I focus my practice in the areas of employment discrimination, family and immigration law. On the employment front, I passionately and aggressively represent employees with claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and/or unfair wage practices against employers. It is unfortunate, but the reality is that, sometimes, employees still face discrimination and other unfair and unlawful employment practices. I belive that employers who violate employees' legal rights should be punished. I believe that employees should be treated equally and without regard to their race, age, gender, religion, pregnancy-status, or national origin. I also believe an employee should not be retaliated against if s/he m akes a complaint of discrimination or if s/he supports a co-worker's complaint. But those are not the only types of claims I pursue. I also pursue claims against employers for retaliating against an employee for seeking or taking Family Medical Leave (FMLA) time; or for filing a workers' compensation claim; or for being a whistle blower. I also fight for employees (under for the Fair Labor Standards Act) who are being cheated out of their hard-earned wages and are not being paid for all their time worked or for all their over-time worked. In sum, employees have rights; and I protect them!
In the area of family law, I guide my clients through the divorce and/or child custody process. This area of law is extremely sensitive, and I endeavor to give each client individual attention and will address any and all questions so that my clients know that I am fighting for them and their family's best interest.
Immigration law is my personal passion. Because my parents immigrated to the United States from Trinidad, West Indies, I understand the commitment and sacrifice of foreign-born individuals and their desire to pursue their dreams in the United States. The process and paperwork is not easy, but I guide my clients through the process with care and competence because I want to see them succeed!
For the first ten years of my career, I also represented Fortune 500 companies in litigation involving state and federal statutes such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth in Lending Act, the Texas Finance Code, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I have defended against contract claims, debt-collection claims, erroneous credit-reporting claims, arbitration confirmation, and general-litigation claims.
I also pursue personal injury claims on behalf of individual-plaintiffs. If you have a commercial/contract or personal injury issue, I can help.
